Hurricane Ivan in 2004 destroyed the Interstate 10 Bridge that crossed Escambia Bay and the old 3 mile fishing bridge between Pensacola and Gulf Breeze, when replaced the debris from these old bridges was hauled out on barges and deployed for habitat covering a large area on the seafloor. This rubble is scattered with sand trails between bridge spans and mimics natural coral reefs and as such attracts every variety of marine life that the Gulf has to offer. These sites are easy to get lost on so make sure to bring a reel or brush up on your navigation skills prior to making the dive. Depths range from 50 to 85 feet and good diving can be found from 3 to about 16 nm offshore, there are many other smaller sites that make for interesting dives.
